European blue card

Conditions for obtaining a European Blue Card
- The gross monthly pay the employee will receive exceeds a certain amount.
- Work contract for at least a 6-month period.
- Higher education degree that necessitated 3 years of study.
OR, if the position is in the information and communication technology sector (manager or specialist): proof of professional experience that is relevant to the position to be filled. This experience must lead to expertise of a level comparable to higher education degrees and must cover at least three of the seven years preceding the Blue Card application.
Application
The conditions mentioned above are met. The employee does not have a Blue Card yet.
The employee already has a Blue Card issued by another EU member state. The conditions mentioned above are met, and the employee will work in Belgium for 90 days at most, over a period of 180 days.
You do not need to ask Brussels Economy and Employment for an authorisation to work (automatic exemption).

Apply for a long-term mobility single permitThe authorisation to work is issued for the duration of the work contract, with a maximum duration of three years. Renewals are possible after that period.
Change of employer
You may change employers during the validity period of your Blue Card.
In that case, you have to send several documents to Brussels Economy and Employment:
- the change of employer notification form (in French (.pdf) or in Dutch (.pdf)), duly completed, signed and dated by the employer or their authorised representative (natural person legally residing in Belgium), or generated by the electronic platform;
- for an employee in the private sector: a copy of the new employment contract (in accordance with the provisions of the law dated 3 July 1978 on employment contracts), dated and signed by both parties
for a civil servant: the designation or appointment act.
During the first year using the Blue Card, a change of employer can only be made 30 days after notification, provided that in the meantime, Brussels Economy and Employment has not notified a decision to refuse the change of employer.
