Work authorisation
01 March 2023
On 1 March 2023, the regulation changed for non-European researchers with a hosting agreement wanting to work in Belgium.

Employers must now apply for a single permit via the "Working in Belgium" One-Stop Shop in two specific cases:
- The researchers will work in Belgium for more than 90 days and does not have a researcher's permit in another EU Member State ? They will have to apply for a single permit.
- The researchers will work in Belgium for more than 180 days and already has a researcher's permit obtained in another EU Member State ? They will have to apply for a single permit for long-term mobility.

Researcher with hosting agreement
Is the researcher already in position? When the hosting agreement ends and a new one is signed, the researcher will automatically have to apply for a single permit based on the new regulation.
The situation remains unchanged for non-European researchers who are not in possession of a hosting agreement.
