Cross-Border Worker
Before hiring a non-European national living in a bordering country, you need to obtain an authorisation. Thereto, you need to submit the following documents:
- Form
Authorisation application to employ a foreign cross-border worker - Employer in Belgium (in French or in Dutch)
Authorisation application to employ a foreign cross-border worker - Employer established abroad (in French or in Dutch) - Employment contract (in French or in Dutch)
- Medical certificate for a foreign worker, in accordance with article 14 of the royal decree dated 9 June 1999 (in French or in Dutch)
- Other required documents
What is the procedure?

The procedure requires a maximum of 90 days between the time the application is complete with Brussels Economy and Employment, and the issuance of the work permit/the notification of refusal.
